Slow Cooker Pizza Sauce

Beautiful, dark red pizza/marinara sauce that’s so much better than store bought.

Inredients:

2 (12 oz) cans Tomato Paste

1 (20 oz) can Tomato Sauce (Hunt’s tomato sauce found near the canned tomatoes, NOT premade marinara!)

1/2 cup Water

Salt and Pepper to taste

1 clove Garlic, finely minced

1 1/2 tbsp Dried Oregano

1 tbsp Dried Basil

1 1/2  tbsp Dried Parsley

3 tbsp Olive Oil

1-2 tbsp Anchovy Paste (found near the canned tuna etc in most grocery stores)

1 1/2 tbsp Sugar (or more if you like a sweeter marinara… I don’t)

1/4- 1/2 cup Parmesan, grated

_

1. In the bowl of the crock pot, whisk together all of the ingredients except for the parmesan. Set the slow cooker to low and allow it to cook for 4 hours, stirring every 30 minutes to prevent burning around the edges. If it thickens too quickly, add a tablespoon of water at a time until it’s the consistency that you want… I personally like a thicker sauce.

2. After 4 hours, make any adjustments to the seasoning that you wish, and either divide the sauce into jars for canning, or allow it to cool completely and store it in an air tight container in the freezer.

*You’ll want to add the parmesan after the sauce has cooled otherwise it will just melt and be big globs of cheese.

  2. These are such adorable little jars! No wonder you got into canning; I would too if it meant having these cuties around the kitchen! And these would make fabulous gifts come holiday season. Although I have a feeling the jams would go over better than pizza sauce… Haha very cool either way!

    • Haha true, but I made them in part to send to Nick since they eat so much na’an- I figured some tasty stuff to put on it can’t hurt! Maybe a grilled “pizza” with the flat bread, pizza sauce and goat cheese? :)
